Product details description
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), commonly known as acrylic, has evolved beyond simple clear sheets. Modern manufacturing allows for extreme customization in texture, color, and functionality, making it a competitor to glass and polycarbonate in high-end design.
Advanced Surface Finishes
Anti-Reflective (AR) Acrylic: Originally developed for museum glass, this finish reduces glare to less than 1% while maintaining 98% light transmission. It is now used in high-end signage and display cases.
Matte and Frosted: Achieved through chemical etching or co-extrusion. These finishes hide scratches better than polished sheets and diffuse light softly, making them popular for lighting fixtures (LED covers) and privacy partitions.
Textured/Patterned: Rolls of acrylic are now embossed with leather grains, wood patterns, or geometric designs during production, eliminating the need for secondary painting or veneering.
Functional Additives
UV Stabilization: Standard acrylic yellow over time. New UV-locked formulations include hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) that prevent degradation for 10+ years outdoors.
Anti-Bacterial: Infused with silver ions or copper nanoparticles, these sheets actively kill bacteria on contact, making them ideal for hospital trays, kitchen splashbacks, and public touchscreens.
Abrasion Resistance: Hard-coated acrylics feature a silicon dioxide top layer that resists scratching, solving the historic weakness of soft PMMA surfaces.
